You have to know the meaning of  Shahada All practicing Muslims accept belief in the ‘Six Articles of Faith’ and are obliged to follow the ‘Five Pillars.’  They are: 1.    Muslim profession of faith or  shahada . 2.    Ritual Prayer or  salah . 3.    Obligatory Charity or  zakah . 4.    Fasting or  sawm . 5.    Pilgrimage or  hajj . The First Pillar Muslim Profession of Faith   The  Shahada  is the Muslim profession of faith and the first of the ‘Five Pillars’ of Islam.  The word  shahada  in Arabic means ‘testimony.’  The  shahada  is to testify to two things: (a)  Nothing deserves worship except God (Allah). (b)  Muhammad is the Messenger of God (Allah). A Muslim is simply one who bears witness and testifies that "nothing deserves worship except God and Muhammad is the messenger of God." The most popular opinion, and the opinion held by at-Tabaree (d. 310 A.H.), is that the word 'qur'aan' is derived from qara'a, which means, 'to read, to recite." 'Qur'aan' would then he the verbal noun (nuisdai) of quia a, and thus translates as 'The Recitation' or 'The Reading.'
